SSIP Co-organized the “First Symposium on IP Textb

On May 10, 2014, the “Fist Symposium on IP Textbooks and Teaching Methodology Used in Colleges and Universities in China” hosted by China Intellectual Property Law Association, Renmin University of China Academy of IP, and the Intellectual Property College of East China University of Political Science and Law, organized by Beijing Sunshine Intellectual Property and Legal Development Foundation (SSIP), was held in the No.3 Conference Room of the Friendship Building in Changning Campus of East China University of Political Science and Law. More than 80 participants attended the symposium, including experts from the University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, East China University of Political Science and Law, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nankai University, Tianjin University, Beijing Institute of Technology, South China Institute of Technology University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Fuzhou University, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Sichuan University, Northwest University of Political Science and Law, Suzhou University, Anhui University, Xiangtan University, Shanghai University, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, China University of Petroleum, Huazhong Normal University, Nanjing Institute of Technology University, Zhejiang Gongshang University, China Metrology Institute, Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology, South-Central University for Nationalities, Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Capital University of Economics and Business, Chongqing Jiaotong University, Shaoxing University of Arts and Sciences, Jiaxing College, Wenzhou Institute of Intellectual Property, Shandong Women’s College, Xuchang College, etc., as well as Beijing Justra Intellectual Property Center, Tsinghua University Press, Renmin University of China Press, Fudan University Press, Higher Education Press, Intellectual Property Publishing House and other publishing houses.

The meeting lasted for a day. At the opening ceremony in the morning, Professor Du Zhichun, Secretary of the Party Committee of East China University of Political Science and Law, gave a speech on behalf of the organizers. He introduced the development and achievements of the IP research in ECUPSL, and emphasizing the importance of this symposium to the teaching of IP law, and then he expressed his gratitude to all the participants and organizers on behalf of ECUPSL. Prof. Liu Chuntian, President of China IP Law Association and Dean of the Acady of IP, RUC, delivered a speeching, introducing the history of IP law in China, and also emphasizing the importance of this symposium.

After the opening ceremony, experts from colleges and universities shared their opinions and views on the issue of IP law textbooks and teaching methodology. The first section of the symposium focused on the topic of “The Task and Guiding Principle in the Teaching of IP law.” Experts discussed on various issues such as the teaching system and teaching modes of IP, the design of teaching time period, textbook and their relationship to the bar exam, the core courses for IP learning, etc. The second section focused on “The General Principles of IP.” Experts discussed on the importance of the teaching of general principles of IP, and what should be taught regarding general principles of IP and the relation between general principles and specific rules in IP laws, by introducing their teaching experience and practice and experience learn from abroad. The third section focused on “The System of Specific IP Laws.” Professors from colleges and universities introduced their teaching experience and new ideas from abroad, and discussed on how to improve the teaching of specific IP laws under China’s existing law system.

The participants to the symposium exchanged in depth their experience and thought on teaching and research. At the end of the symposium, Professor He Min, Dean of the School of Intellectual Property of ECUPSL, delivered a concluding speech and expressed his gratitude to the participants for the sharing of their experience and knowledge. Professor Huang Wushuang, Associate Dean of School of IP of ECUPSL, elaborated on the relationship between the teaching of IP and textbooks of IP in ECUPSL. Professor Liu Chuntian, President of the China Intellectual Property Law Association, expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the symposium, and expressed his gratitude to the organization and arrangement of ECUPSL. He hoped that this symposium in the area of IP teaching would be held once a year in the future, so that colleague from all over China may share their experience and thoughts in teaching and research of intellectual property law.
